IRI 2014 – The Best of the Best!

IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational Competition) is an off season event which is only invitational and some of the best teams around the world are invited to participate. This year the RoboRaiders were honored to be one of those teams and we head out to compete at one of the most prestigious FRC competitions. Driving all the way to Indiana from Lubbock, the team reached there on July 18th in time for unloading “Mantis” and the rest of the pit. IRI was a great experience for us to work closely with other top FRC teams and bond with their team members. It was a great opportunity for the students to feel the intensity of such a competition and we thank IRI for giving us the chance to be a part of this!

Transformers, Robots and Awesome!

Last week on June 27th and 28th, the Alamo Drafthouse gave us the opportunity to come out to the showing of the new Transformers Movie and bring our robots with us. We set up our booth for selling HexBugs and raffle the 100$ gift card that the Alamo Drafthouse had generously donated us. Accompanying us for this events were our two robots, “Meatloaf” from 2010 and “Mantis” from 2014. It was a great opportunity for us to attract the attention of kids from different ages and let them see that Robots are more than just something they can admire in movies. While the kids played around with our Robots and learned more about our FRC team, their parents got to know about the different programs FIRST has to offer for their children. Overall, we reached out to 200+ people at the theater and raised an approximate of 400$.

We would love to thank the staff of the Alamo Drafthouse for their help and support!
